Orkut hit by feed mania
Got an orkut teaser from my friend this morning. Logged in to orkut & saw a b/w feeds button on the left. Clicked on edit feeds button, did the captcha & voila … got my flickr and delicious feeds on the orkut profile page. Nice and simple. I must say this is one of the coolest feature orkut has added till date. Unlike the videos feature, this time they have no restriction on the feeds which can be added. The add video feature ion orkut is still restricted to youtube & google videos.
The native rss button on the left says edit feeds, but all what it allows to do is add & delete feeds. The feeds are visible to all the people who can see your profile. It would be nice if they define access levels for feeds. Something like restrict the feeds to friends or certain groups. But to start off… Its a real nice feature. How about getting some meshed up feeds from Yahoo! pipes.
Now thats what I call social networking.

I agree,
its turning into a junkyard (may be they should have an option to mark scraps as private). But i really dunno as to how many of the Jack & Jane users are gonna add feeds to their profile. I even wonder if they know what RSS feeds are.

i hope atleast now jack n jane will use feeds.
the word ‘feeds’ make me feel like a cow…no no ‘ox’…damn!
it allows 5 feeds only n since you’re suggestin pipes n stuff i’m sure google’s gonna turn up a blank page for your blog feed soon

& you say “Don’t Be Evil”. May be its time to start meshing feeds (using Y! pipes) rather than being dependent on the limit the’ve set.
BTW do you have any idea of whats the refresh time for the feeds on the page. I updated my flickr account & went back to check the feeds page on Orkut.. just to realise that they are not updated. That simply means that orkut doesent lookup for latest feeds

orkut scans once a day. its written in the FAQ. but if you check em close to the update time you’ll feel that orkut does it more frequently.
a few of my friends and few people with blank blogs have added their blog’s feeds.
doesn’t orkut strip out the ads from the feeds which have em…like say theregister…i’m just wonderin…that’d be evil thing to do.
